Job overview

Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration - MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for candidates who are offered permanent vacancies.

This is full time position with 10 programmed activities spread throughout the week.

The post holder will form part of the T&O team delivering pelvic trauma services.

The appointee should also be able to demonstrate competency in dealing with pelvic and general trauma. The successful candidate should have completed at least six months in a fellowship position

The appointment together with the supporting infra-structure will assist the Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics to continue to:

  • A comprehensive pelvic trauma service including the management of polytrauma
  • General trauma as part of on-call rota
  • Fracture clinic
  • Participation in the major trauma consultant of the week rota
  • Elective hip arthroplasty theatre and outpatient

Person specification

Research

Essential

  • Evidence of involvement in research projects
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals

Desirable

  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems

Qualifications

Essential

  • Entry on the specialist register (or entry expected within six months)
  • FRCS (Tr&Orth).
  • Evidence of satisfactory completion of post CCT fellowship - ATLS provider

Desirable

  • Post graduate thesis
  • ATLS instructor

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedics
  • Completed Fellowship post in Trauma surgery including pelvic trauma (Minimum 6 months)
  • Primary Interest in Trauma surgery
  • Ability to offer expert opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective in Pelvic surgery

Desirable

  • Further experience in Trauma surgery

Personal attritbues

Essential

  • Ability to work in a team
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
  • Commitment to continuing medical education
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels

Teaching experience

Essential

  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
  • Experience of teaching medical students

Desirable

  • Experience of supervising foundation year trainees or equivalent and above
  • Teaching Qualification

Management experience

Essential

  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
  • Ability to manage and lead a surgical firm
  • Understanding of the clinical governance network
  • Evidence of audit

Desirable

  • Proven track record and management experience
