Full Time (10 PA, including up to 2 PA SPA) – part time can be considered

NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint one Consultant with experience in General ENT, with a subspecialty interest which can be discussed at the interview. This is a permanent full time post. Part time working can be considered. The applicant must be able to do general ENT clinics and theatre.

The post includes an essential on call commitment within NHS Forth Valley, on call is the primary commitment of the post.

Experience

Essential

  • At least 7 years of Higher Specialist Training (or equivalent) in ENT
  • Recent experience in relevant subspecialty areas where advice might be sought, especially in the emergency situation

Desirable

  • Knowledge and / or training in areas of ENT / head and neck practice that would support recent or proposed surgical (and other) developments within Forth Valley
  • Intermediate or higher training in these areas of anaesthesia

Management

Essential

  • Understanding of management issues including medical discipline; clinical governance, service planning and willingness to contribute to the activity of the NHS in Forth Valley.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by NHS Scotland and how these are being addressed in NHS Forth Valley
  • Understanding of Patient Safety and Quality Improvement

Desirable

  • Demonstrated ability to manage e.g. project work; mentoring junior staff
  • Delivery of a patient safety or quality improvement project
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Realistic Medicine.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons
  • Full GMC registration, with licence to practise
  • Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT)
  • Applicants who are within 6 months of achieving CCT at the date of interview are eligible to apply.

Desirable

  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or PhD higher degree
  • MBA or other relevant diplomas

  • Able to demonstrate high level of competence in the clinical aspects of general ENT and head and neck surgery (benign and cancer).
