We seek to appoint a permanent Older Adult Psychiatry Consultant, to join our team dedicated to the delivery of older adult mental health services in the Highlands. The post holder will provide consultant input to our community team to cover Mid Ross (Dingwall, Strathpeffer) and Easter Ross (Alness, Invergordon, Tain), for both primary and organic mental disorders. The post is supported by a well-developed community mental health team. An experienced Associate Specialist supports nurse led care home liaison. The post holder will be based at the New Craigs Hospital site, where inpatient care is provided, and will participate in the Consultant on call rota (1:15).
The job plan can be developed flexibly, with opportunities for special interests in keeping with the needs of the service, whether in community, inpatient, liaison or young onset dementia services. The post provides a 8:2 split between Direct Clinical Care and SPA sessions.
The post holder will be supported by a cohesive and collegiate group of clinicians, and will participate in CPD and peer supervision. Consultant peer groups meet regularly and there are regular educational events organised as part of our in-house programme.

- Full driving licence
Qualifications
Essential
- MB, ChB or equivalent.
- MRCPsych.
- Approved Medical Practitioner status, obtained by undergoing Section 22 training (Mental Health Scotland Act 2003)
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Overall clinical knowledge and experience commensurate with Consultant responsibility.
- Proficient in effective communication with multiple professional disciplines, patients and their families, leading to clear decisions being agreed, documented and acted upon.
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act and associated duties.
Desirable
- Experience in subspecialty / special interest areas like hospital liaison, care home liaison or young onset dementia
Teaching & Training
Essential
- Commitment to continuing teaching and training responsibilities consistent with Consultant role.
Desirable
- Experience / interest in responsibilities associated with Undergraduate and/or Post graduate training
- Recognition as Trainer
GMC/Specialist Registration
Essential
- Completed appropriate Higher specialist training with appropriate CCT/on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining it at time of interview.
