Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Community Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to join the Stafford Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) based in Stafford.

This role is part of a functionalised model in which patients requiring inpatient care, crisis or home treatment have their care temporarily transferred to the relevant pathway.

You will provide leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure and offering support and supervision as required to the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Non-Medical Prescribers.

You may be responsible to supervise a trainee and there are also opportunities available in the Trust to participate in postgraduate and undergraduate education for Junior Doctors and medical students from Keele Medical School

You will hold a caseload of approximately 90 of which many will have other clinicians in the IMHT working with them.  The team is made up of 2.6wte Psychiatrists, 1.0 Advanced Clinical Practitioner, 6.8wte Nurses, 2.0 Nursing Associate, 1.8wte Occupational Therapists, 2.0wte Psychologists, 2.0wte Psychological Therapist, 2.0 Clinical Associate in Psychology, 4.0wte Healthcare Support Workers 0.8 Peer Recovery Worker and 1 Team Manager.

All Consultant Psychiatrists are supported in developing their ways of working within the MPFT Living Our Values Framework.

You will take part in out of hours duties; on call work is remunerated at 3% as well as 0.25 APAs.

Main duties of the job

As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide medical leadership within a collective leadership model.

As part of this role, you will be expected to:

  • Ensure, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, regular effective review of the care of patients in the clinical pathway – via individual assessments and follow up appointments, MDT meetings and sometimes the Care Programme Approach (CPA) review, particularly where the complexity requires it.
  • Be the Responsible Clinician for service users in the pathway who are subject to Community Treatment Order (CTO) where applicable
  • Provide evidence based care
  • Be recovery focused
  • Provide cross-cover (emergency and prospective) for other Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues by mutual agreement
  • Communicate with all key partners in an appropriate and timely way including service users, carers and General Practitioners.
  • Comply with all Trust policies and the Living Our Values Framework.
