Job overview

As part of our workforce transformation, we are looking to appoint Consultants in Emergency Medicine to work in our Emergency Departments at  The Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.

We offer our consultants the option of a 10 or 12 PA job plan (7.5DCC/2.5SPA or 9DCC/3SPA) which includes a flexible shift rota between 08:00 – 22:00 weekdays and 8 hours at weekends. Specific individual requirements will also be accommodated where possible, including the ability to have fixed weekdays off or part time positions.

Main duties of the job

A new medical school opened in east Kent from 2020, offering 100 training places per annum. We have been working closely with university partners and other Kent Trusts to see this to fruition and would strongly welcome applicants who may be interested in joint academic and clinical appointments. In addition to the development of others, we are keen to support the professional and academic study of our consultant body. This includes support to study post-graduate qualifications such as MBA or MSc or undertaking academic research.

Our emergency medicine consultants are supported by an EM workforce consisting of 25 Middle Grade/ Speciality Doctors, in addition to higher trainees (2) and ACCS posts (4). We support the development of our junior grade workforce by offering special interest posts, a CESR completion route and have a cohort of trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners supported by our Acute Care Nurse Consultants.

Skills

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • FRCEM or equivalent
  • Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), ILETS, or graduate of a UK Medical School
  • CCT/CESR Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date

Desirable

  • Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
  • Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD
  • Dual accreditation in ITU/PHEM/PEM
  • Instructor status in advanced life support course.
  • Leadership and Teaching Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Wide and extensive experience in all aspects of Emergency Medicine

Desirable

  • Special interest within or outside of Emergency Medicine
