Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant Emergency and General Surgeon (EGS) with a specialist interest in benign coloproctology and abdominal wall reconstruction to join our team at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust. The individual should have specialist skills in open and laparoscopic surgery in both the elective and emergency setting. They should also have JAG accreditation in lower GI endoscopy. The preferred elective sub-specialty interest is in benign coloproctology and abdominal wall hernia, including abdominal wall reconstruction, though the role will principally involve emergency and general surgery, within which the successful applicant will be expected to take on the role of lead in general and emergency surgery for the soon to be introduced Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU).

Main duties of the job

The Royal Free Hospital is seeking an exceptional Consultant Surgeon to join our dynamic team of nine consultants, taking a leading role in Emergency General Surgery while contributing to our high-quality elective benign colorectal service. This post offers the opportunity to shape and advance a busy, progressive surgical unit within a major teaching hospital, working alongside experienced multidisciplinary colleagues committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and outstanding patient care. We are looking for a motivated surgeon with strong leadership, collaborative skills, and a passion for delivering first-class emergency and colorectal surgical services in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
