Job overview

The advertised post is for a consultant diagnostic neuroradiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust following a general increase in workload and as a result of the successful introduction of the 24/7 thrombectomy service in 2021.  We are looking for a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our existing team of 18 neuroradiologists to help develop the service and to support the active training program. The post will be based at both The Royal London Hospital and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.

The successful applicant should have completed subspecialist training in diagnostic neuroradiology. The successful candidate will join the team of 18 neuroradiologists (including 6 neuro interventional radiologists and 4 head and neck radiologists) currently providing a comprehensive neuroimaging service to the Trust.  There is a regional neurosciences Unit, regional head & neck Unit, level 1 Trauma Unit and  Hyperacute Stroke Unit all located at the RLH site and Oncology /Cyberknife radiosurgery is located at Barts.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake all aspects of diagnostic neuroradiology.  They will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. They will need to agree levels of activity and throughout with the Imaging Clinical Director and General Manager. These activity levels will be aligned to the capacity and demand of the department.

Barts Health NHS Trust has a Regional Oncology Centre, a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and is a Level 1 Trauma Unit (one of 4 in London). The Royal London Hospital is one of four major trauma centers in London. The 727-bed Royal London Hospital is one of the UKs largest and most advanced healthcare facilities. Barts Health was established in 2012 following the merger of three former organisations. It incorporates 5 hospitals in East London and the City: Whipps Cross, Newham, The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, and Mile End together with community health services for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. In 2016 the Trust opened the Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The Gateway Surgical Centre was recently opened at Newham hospital providing care for cold orthopedics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To adhere to Trust policy and infection control principles and standards to minimise patient risk and ensure high quality patient care.
  • Undertake appropriate training and practice to ensure you (and your teams) have the right skills and are competent.
  • Are responsible for keeping the environment clutter free, clean, and raising issues of concern in the interest of staff and patient safety.
  • Ensure high cleaning standards to prevent infection and increase patient's confidence.
  • Work together and with others to design the BLT IPC Service in line with national guidance.
  • With others, support and develop good IPC practices consistent with national guidance and the Trust's Pathfinder Strategy
  • Advise and support the Director of Infection Control and Prevention (DIPC), Deputy DIPC and infection control team in achieving their objectives and fulfilling their responsibilities.
