Applications are invited for a full time Consultant in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology within the University Dental Hospital at the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. This exciting post offers a rare opportunity to shape the strategy for Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology within the health board area.

Applicants must be on the General Dental Council Specialist list in Demtal and Maxillofacial Radiology or within 6 months of completion of specialty training.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will be expected to
- Provide specialist opinion on conventional dental radiographs
- Provide radiological reports on CBCT imaging
- Provide specialist dental imaging
The post holder would be the Lead Consultant for Dental Radiology and based at Cardiff Dental Hospital liaising with the subspeciality dentists including orthognathic, restorative dentistry, paediatrics, and oral medicine and surgery and support the maxillofacial service in collaboration with H&N Services, CAVUHB. They will work closely with the dental specialities at the dental hospital as well as the Head and Neck Radiology team based at UHW. The majority of neck ultrasound is carried out at the dental hospital and there is a good working relationship between the Dental radiologist and Head and Neck radiologists.

Experience
Essential
- Experience in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology including conventional radiography, CBCT, Ultrasound, Sialography
- Experience in diagnostic sialography
- Experience in diagnostic ultrasound examination of the head and neck
Desirable
- Experience in salivary gland interventions.
- Experience in image guided biopsy techniques.
- Experience of carrying out sclerotherapy of vascular malformations
- Experience of CT & MRI scanning
Management
Essential
- Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process
- Evidence of effective leadership skills
- Management of clinical services in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology

- Evidence of management training

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- Full Registration with the General Dental Council
- On Specialist Register for Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology (DMFR) / DMFR Specialty Registrar with CCST due within 6 months of interview date
Desirable
- MFDS/ MJDF or equivalent
- Evidence of training/ postgraduate qualification in education/ dental education
- A postgraduate research degree
- Completion of a recognised specialist training programme in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology
- Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions etc.)
- Postgraduate certificate in medical and dental education or equivalent
