Main duties of the job

Barts Health NHS Trust is one of the largest and most respected teaching hospital trusts in Britain as well as being the home of London’s Air Ambulance Service. The Trust incorporates St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London and Mile End Hospitals, Newham University Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital.

NEWHAM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, as part of Barts Health NHS Trust, is a 350-bed hospital that serves one of Britain’s most diverse, fastest growing, and youngest populations. The Radiology department in Newham University Hospital is a busy, modern, and well-equipped department with 6 fully digital general X-ray rooms (DR) and 1 modern Fluoroscopy screening room, six ultrasound rooms, a state-of-the-art 128 slice dual source CT scanner, a state-of-the-art wide-bore 1.5 Tesla and a new 3 Tesla MRI scanners, and a digital mammography unit equipped with biopsy module. A second CT scanner is under installation at the moment. We are a completely paperless department with a cross-trust HIS, PACS, RIS and VR system for reporting. THE POST: This post is for a substantive Consultant Radiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust with a sub-speciality interest in cardiothoracic imaging. We are looking for a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our existing team of radiologists to help deliver the service and to support the active training programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
  • Helping in development and organization of the services in his / her charge in line with the Trusts’ business plans. Liaison and communication with the General Manager and Clinical Directors for Imaging at Barts Health NHS Trust will be expected.
  • Development of his/her own interests and specialties within the Imaging service, including active participation in audit programs.
  • Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.

Duties of the Post:

  • To contribute to the high-quality Consultant-led diagnostic imaging service at NUH and SBH.
  • To contribute to the specialist MDTs on a roster with subspecialist colleagues.
  • To join the general on-call service.
  • To always adhere to the appropriate clinical and quality standards.
  • To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, general practitioners’ community services, and all healthcare agencies.
  • To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work.
  • To participate fully in the management of the Departments and to liaise closely with the respective clinical and academic group director and General Manager.
