Main duties of the job

This post is part of the leadership team within the service and will provide appropriate support and supervision to other team members. The post holder will be part of a clinical team providing specialist psychiatric advice to the  multidisciplinary team. There is the potential to support medical trainees and advanced clinical practitioners, who will be supervised by the consultant.

The post-holder with other senior members of the CAMHS Teams   will be responsible for ensuring there is effective communication with referring and receiving teams throughout the Trust, and Primary care. Where appropriate the post-holder will join therapy sessions in complex cases.  Whilst primarily responsible for delivering a quality clinical service the Consultant psychiatrist is also expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services, being involved with the service manager in helping to steer the development of the service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.

The successful candidate will develop a personal development plan for lifelong learning .  We  also offer new appointees the chance to extend their development, If you would like to undertake a further qualification, undertake research or involve yourself in our transformation program.

Person specification

Teaching

Essential

  • Evidence of teaching experience at post-graduate and/or under-graduate level

Desirable

  • Specific evidence of organising teaching or medical education programmes
  • Relevant teaching qualification

Eligibility

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration and licence
  • Eligibility for Section 12 and AC Approval
  • Inclusion (or eligibility for inclusion) on the specialist or specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT

Desirable

  • Section 12/AC Approval
  • Trainer Training to enable clinical and/or supervision of trainees

Qualifications

Essential

  • CCT or Equivalent in CAMHS Psychiatry

Desirable

  • Relevant Higher Degree eg: MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualification

Research and Audit

Essential

  • Experience of carrying out an audit project

Desirable

  • Experience or involvement in a research project and publication

Clinical Skille, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of UK Hospital Systems (or equivalent) Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Previous experience of taking a leadership role in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
  • Ability to use IT, including e-mail and the internet
  • Knowledge of risk management
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA

Desirable

  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills
