An exciting opportunity has arisen for five new substantive Consultant Anaesthetists to join the Theatres, Anaesthesia and Peri-operative Medicine (TAP) Directorate at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
We are seeking motivated and forward-thinking clinicians who are committed to delivering excellent patient care within a high-performing, multidisciplinary team. Applicants must be medically qualified, hold GMC specialist registration, and have a licence to practise.
These posts are ideally suited to anaesthetists who have recently completed specialist training and have additional experience working in a busy teaching hospital environment.

The successful candidates will work across a broad range of general anaesthetic services at both Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital sites.
The role is offered as a full-time 10 Programmed Activity (PA) contract, typically comprising:
Clinical responsibilities will include elective theatre work. The standard working pattern is across five days (Monday to Friday), with participation in a weekend rota (approximately 1 in 10 weeks).
On-call commitments will initially be based at Guy’s Hospital, covering thoracic, difficult airway, and renal transplant anaesthesia. Opportunities to align on-call duties with specialist interests at St Thomas’ Hospital (e.g. vascular or gastrointestinal services) will be available.
The post offers flexibility to develop a personalised job plan, aligned to individual clinical interests and professional goals. This will be agreed with Clinical Leads within the first three months of appointment and reviewed annually.
We are seeking dynamic and motivated Consultant Anaesthetists to join a busy and diverse department, delivering both elective and emergency services across Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital sites.
The roles offer exposure to a wide range of anaesthetic practice, with opportunities to develop specialist interests aligned to departmental needs and individual expertise. Areas of practice include airway management, maxillofacial surgery, vascular, cardiology, interventional radiology, obstetrics, major surgery, renal transplantation, regional anaesthesia, orthopaedics, robotic surgery, and urology.
On-call commitments will be based at Guy’s Hospital, covering thoracic, difficult airway, and renal transplant anaesthesia. Where appropriate, there will be opportunities to align on-call responsibilities with specialist interests at St Thomas’ Hospital, including vascular and gastrointestinal services.
