Lead an established specialist psychology service within a welcoming and high-performing bariatric surgery team.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC-registered Clinical, Health or Counselling Psychologist to join our specialist Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Service on a fixed-term maternity cover basis.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Lead Psychologist to maintain and, where needed, further develop our established bariatric psychology service during a period of maternity leave.
This is an opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary bariatric surgery team delivering highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for adults undergoing bariatric and metabolic surgery. The successful candidate will play a central role in maintaining high-quality psychological care while providing professional leadership, supervision and expert consultation within the service.
Alongside clinical work, the post offers opportunities to contribute to service evaluation, research and teaching. The service has a strong research culture, including an established bariatric psychology research programme and clinical research database, and regularly hosts MSc Health Psychology students, trainee psychologists and PhD candidates through close links with King's College London.

You will:
Deliver highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions for adults referred to the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Service.
Provide clinical leadership for the bariatric psychology service
Work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to complex clinical decision-making.
Line manage and supervise qualified psychologists, trainee psychologists or students, and assistant psychologists as required.
Provide consultation and training to colleagues across the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to ongoing service evaluation, audit, research and quality improvement.

About you
You will be an HCPC-registered Health, Clinical, or Counselling Psychologist with:
A doctoral qualification in Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychology.
Significant post-qualification experience in bariatric surgery, obesity or specialist health psychology settings.
Experience delivering evidence-based psychological therapies within complex physical health settings.
Excellent multidisciplinary working and leadership skills.
A commitment to delivering compassionate, evidence-based psychological care.
An excellent communicator, confident working autonomously and committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care.
Applicants will be considered at Band 8b or Band 8c, depending on experience.
Appointment at Band 8c will require evidence of substantial leadership, supervision, service development and research or quality improvement experience within specialist psychological services.

- Provide advice and consultation on patients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues to facilitate patients care within the weight management service.
- Participate actively within the weight management MDTs.
- Provide specialist psychological assessments of patients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources, including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients and others involved in the patient’s care.
- To ensure that all members of the clinical team have access to a psychologically based framework for the understanding and care of clients of the service, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological knowledge, research, and theory.

- Management of Band 7, 8a & 8b Psychologists or Assistant Psychologists within the service.
- Contribute to and, where relevant lead and direct, the development, coordination, evaluation, and monitoring of service delivery, and the development and implementation of relevant policies and processes through the deployment of professional knowledge, research skills, clinical expertise, service evaluation and audit, and Quality Improvement.
- To participate in Trust, local, and national projects and programmes, and to initiate, implement and manage relevant service developments and research.
- To work with the Weight Management Service Lead and service leadership team to ensure that audits, data gathering, service evaluations and research are aligned with and meet the needs of the wider services and the Trust, and that findings and recommendations are implemented to benefit service users and staff.

- Contribute to teaching, training and supervision of other staff within the service regarding all and any psychological perspectives of weight and health management.
- Contribute, enthusiastically, to the teaching of patients, undergraduates, and postgraduates in a wide range of health-related disciplines
