Job overview

This post offers the successful applicant the opportunity to practice Gynaecology at MFT, with a primary focus on Reproductive Medicine at a tertiary level. We are especially interested to hear from clinicians who have an interest in recurrent miscarriage, gynaecology endocrine, male fertility and DSD.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with Subspecialty Accreditation in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery (or equivalent) to join our team and develop our service. Great care has been taken to ensure that there is appropriate access to professional development opportunities. Previous experience at Consultant level is desirable but not essential.

The healthcare landscape in Manchester is evolving and the SMH MCS is one of the biggest providers of gynaecological care in the UK. This post offers the successful applicant the opportunity to join an established NHS Reproductive Medicine team who are highly motivated to deliver expert care to the women of greater Manchester and beyond. The successful applicant will join an emergency gynaecology on call rota (I in 11) which provides care at Wythenshawe and ORC sites as well as delivering elective outpatient and inpatient care to men and women with fertility problems. The successful applicant will work across the sites of the SMH MCS.

Main duties of the job

To support and complement the secondary and tertiary Gynaecology services provided by MFT.

To take a leading role in improving the quality of services in MFT.

To take clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of women under their care, both when outpatients and inpatients, and provide cover for women under the care of other consultant colleagues as required.

To deliver outpatient clinics as agreed on the job plan.

To participate in the consultant rota patterns for the daytime and out of hours working at Wythenshawe Hospital and Oxford Road Campus sites.

To provide out of hours care as described in individual job plan.

To undertake the necessary administrative work relating to the post.

To be responsible for the supervision and training of junior staff and undergraduate students in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and to actively participate in clinical teaching and training of the wider multidisciplinary team.

To take an active role in Clinical Governance, and lead and participate in audit projects relevant to clinical care.

At present posts are based at Oxford Road and Wythenshawe Hospitals sites. As the SMH MCS service evolves, working may be required at other sites within the Trust and successful candidate must be willing to be flexible in this regard.
