Ready to shape the future of community mental health? We're recruiting Consultant Psychiatrists to join our dynamic CMHTs, offering a flexible hybrid working model designed to support both your professional excellence and work--life balance.
These are replacement posts, newly reimagined to provide innovative hybrid opportunities, while also welcoming candidates who prefer a traditional on-site role. You'll be based within our Portsmouth & South Hampshire Division, working in the Gosport or Fareham teams.

You'll provide clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while contributing to supervision, education, service development, and clinical governance. You'll help foster a culture of openness, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job
You will deliver high-quality consultant clinical care, including direct patient contact (clinics), while contributing to a flexible, responsive medical support network within a hybrid UK-based model. You will typically attend onsite a minimum of 3 days per week (aligned to service needs), with remaining duties undertaken remotely where appropriate.
Key responsibilities include supervision, teaching and training of resident doctors, and supporting medical students from the University of Portsmouth and University of Southampton. You will demonstrate strong clinical leadership, excellent communication, and collaborative working skills, contributing to service development and quality improvement.
The role offers 1.5 PA of individual Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), with opportunities for additional SPA to support research, appraisal, leadership, or special interests. You will be expected to be accessible and responsive during remote working, maintaining clear communication and accurate diary/HR records.
Job plans are indicative and will be agreed on appointment. Onsite and virtual sessions will be arranged with the team to balance clinician and patient needs. Opportunities for agreed periods of remote (including overseas) working may be considered, subject to Trust approval, information governance, and UK tax requirements.
Success in this role requires professionalism, flexibility, accountability, and the ability to work effectively within a trusting, hybrid team environment.

Experience
Essential
- Prior experience of general adult psychiatry
- Prior experience of working with detained/Mental Health inpatients as senior trainee or consultant.
- Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
Desirable
- Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
- Experience of crisis, inpatient, or community mental health team care for adults.
Qualifications
Essential
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview. CCT in general adult psychiatry.
- Approved under section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Desirable
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc, or other additional clinical qualifications
- To hold Approved Clinician status
- at the point of taking up post

- Ability to take a leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high quality care and maintain staff morale.
- Ability to use IT, including e-mail and the internet.
- Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work.
- Ability to appraise own performance as a consultant.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Able to communicate effectively with patients, carers, and staff
- Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a consultant.
- Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
- Evidence of additional teaching skills
- Experience of organising a teaching programme and working with colleagues on educational activities.
