Job overview

We are inviting applications for two newly established substantive Consultant posts in Ear Nose and Throat to join the expanding team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Newly qualified and established consultant candidates are welcome to apply.

These posts have been created to meet increasing demand and support ongoing service expansion and transformation, with the aim to establish sub-speciality interests, and in line with plans for a new hospital at the Watford site and work underway for a new surgical elective hub at St Albans City Hospital.

Each post offers a 10 PA job plan with a flexible working structure, supported professional activities, and a strong commitment to education, research, and clinical governance. You'll be expected to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, audit and service development initiatives, and provide high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will be an addition to the team of 2 full time Consultants, Associate specialist and four speciality grade surgeons, trainee registrar and three SHOs. Situated within the pan-London region, the service closely aligns with ENT services at London Northwest, Bedfordshire and East & North Herts Hospitals; the appointees will join the regional network on call via East & North Herts.

-       To provide and support colleagues with the management of all adult and paediatric patients presenting with ENT conditions.

-       To develop close links with the ENT Team and undertake the  responsibilities of outpatient ENT Clinics.

-       Teaching and training of intermediate grade and, junior medical staff, medical students and ENT Nursing Staff.

-       To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

-       To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Essential application criteria:

  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights
  • CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
  • CESR or
  • European Community Rights
  • An appropriate higher ENT qualification/Fellowship

Proven ability to operate independently in:

  • Tympanomastoid surgery
  • Endoscopic sinus surgery
