An opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat (Otorhinolaryngology / Head & Neck) Surgery, at the City Hospital Operating Unit at Bristol Group NHS trust. We are looking for an individual to join our large department to deal with the expanding workload of the department which is a regional centre for paediatric otolaryngology, major head and neck surgery, skull base surgery, major ear surgery and hearing implantation.
We are looking to appoint a Consultant ENT surgeon with a sub-specialist interest in Rhinology, with experience to support complex Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base work. This is a new additional post. The candidate will be expected to have a broad experience of treating ENT conditions in both adults and children and take part in the on-call rota alongside existing members of the department. As the department acts as a regional centre for paediatric ENT, experience in dealing with the range of emergency presentations in this area is essential. There will also be the opportunity for cross-specialty working with Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery and Maxillofacial surgery to tackle complex cases in adults and children.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will contribute to the academic, research and teaching aspects of the post as it is based within the major regional teaching hospital. As a result, the candidate should have an advanced rhinology fellowship
Main duties of the job
Clinical duties include outpatient clinics, operating and emergency care. These activities occur in the City HOU precinct, Southmead HOU and Weston HOU.
The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure both clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.
The successful appointee is expected to take a full role in the delivery of the Trust’s wide agenda for Governance and will take an active part in the department audit arrangements.
1 in 13 on call covering City & Southmead HOU plus emergencies referred from Weston HOU and referrals from other parts of the region for tertiary care, particularly for paediatric patients.
