Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Dermatologist to join our consultant-led Community Dermatology Service. The successful candidate will provide high-quality assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care for adult patients presenting with a broad range of dermatological conditions within a community setting.

The role offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering safe, effective and patient-centred dermatology services.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake new and follow-up dermatology consultations.
  • Diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of dermatological conditions.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Perform dermatological procedures appropriate to the community setting.
  • Review investigation and pathology results where applicable.
  • Escalate or refer patients requiring specialist intervention outside the service scope.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and complete consultation outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Produce clinic letters, treatment plans and discharge summaries as required.

Job responsibilities

  • Conduct new and follow-up dermatology consultations for adult patients.
  • Diagnose and manage a broad range of dermatological conditions including eczema, psoriasis, inflammatory skin disorders, alopecia and urticaria.
  • Perform dermatological treatments and procedures within the scope of the community service.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Review investigations, pathology and histology results where required.
  • Identify patients requiring further specialist management and arrange appropriate onward referrals.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive and contemporaneous clinical records.
  • Complete clinic letters, treatment summaries and discharge documentation within agreed timescales.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing, healthcare assistant and operational teams to deliver a high-quality patient experience.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with GMC standards, safeguarding requirements, infection prevention and control policies, and organisational governance procedures.
  • Maintain continuing professional development, appraisal and revalidation requirements.
