The post-holder will join a team of three consultants and eight associate specialists who provide a comprehensive dermatology service to the area of mid and North Hampshire. This is closely supported by a specialist nurse team who carry out a full range of treatments such as surgery, phototherapy, PDT, patch testing, day treatments and support the medical team with counselling and management of melanoma and other cancer patients.

Job Plan
The provisional timetable will be a 10 PA contract, involving a mixture of minor operations, outpatient work as well as SPA, admin time and non-face-to-face direct clinical contact time. This timetable will be discussed and agreed upon successful appointment. This timetable would also depend on your subspecialist interest. Given the variable nature of clinical work, it is accepted that some activities may over and under run. If, however, an activity regularly over or under runs, then it may be appropriate to review this job plan and/or the support provided.
All Consultants are expected to undergo annual Appraisal and review of their Job Plans and Professional standards.

Main duties of the job
The aim of the post is to ensure continued provision of a comprehensive, high quality dermatology service and to lead on-going developments within the service to ensure all outpatient, surgical and cancer targets are met.
The post holder will support the continued development of excellent outpatient dermatological care and take a lead role for future service development opportunities. The successful candidate would be expected to develop and lead in their own area of interest and expertise.
The new appointee will be encouraged to provide postgraduate education to interested GP’s. There is also a monthly postgraduate regional Solent Skin meeting, departmental governance meeting and RSM dermatology meetings, as well as the opportunity to join the monthly Oxford regional meeting.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will:
- Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of care
- Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
- Develop and maintain good working practices within wards and outpatients
- Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care
- Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
The appointee will be expected to participate in and share responsibility with the existing consultants for:
- The clinical workload of the department and service development
- Develop and provide services in his/her own area of specialist interest
- The administrative affairs of the department
- The management of the department and in due course, have the opportunity to rotate into the clinical leadership of the department

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

- MRCP or Equivalent
- GMC Registration
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register
- CCT (proposed date must be within 6 months of interview) in Dermatology
