This is an exciting opportunity to join Midlands Partnership University  Foundation Trust as a valued Consultant Paediatrician, providing senior medical input into the east locality of the Community Paediatric team.

You will join an experienced, creative, highly skilled and professional multidisciplinary team working to maintain a seamless model of service delivery for children and young people resident in South Staffordshire.

There are opportunities for the post-holder to expand their research portfolio and personal interests, and to take part in ongoing service and clinical audits with the support of a central clinical audit department.  The Trust also has links to Keele University Medical School.

In addition to Adult Services, the Trust provides a number of mental and physical health services for children across Staffordshire ,Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.  The Trust serves a population of 1.1 million, over a geography of 2,200 square miles, with around 8,500 staff.  It has a turnover of over £160million.   We are committed to keeping service users and carers at the heart of everything we do.

Main duties of the job

  • To be sufficiently flexible to meet the changing needs of the service and to take part in planning their local service
  • To appraise and provide clinical supervision for junior medical staff involved in caring for patients in the care of the post holder. The post holder will act as an educational supervisor or in any other specific training role to junior medical staff and ensure that junior medical staff work within the parameters of the New Deal and WTD. This arrangement will be reviewable in negotiation with the Service and Clinical Director and the College Tutor
  • To participate in Continuing Professional Development and to remain up-to-date with requirements for relicensing and revalidation. The post holder will also be expected to attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars. There will also be opportunities for offering teaching to medical students from Keele University in clinical and ‘small group’ settings.  As part of continued professional development the post holder will be expected to take part in a buddy group which will meet regularly to advise and support you in your continuous professional development activities.
  • To develop a special interest and to develop and participate in research and audit, within available resources. The post holder will be expected to have an active involvement in medical and clinical audit in line with the existing audit structures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Within South Staffordshire there are three main providers of children’s health services: Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust, University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust, and Queens Hospital Burton Foundation Trust. These are in addition to other neighbouring Acute Trusts which also serve the Staffordshire population.

South Staffordshire has a population of over 604,000 of which 150,000 are children aged 0 to 18 years old.

The Consultant works as part of the Community Paediatric Team in the locality of Lichfield, providing a community-based service to the local population. The Consultant should play a significant role in the development of the service by liaising with general practitioners, social services and other key partner organisations.
