Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trust as a substantive consultant clinical oncologist covering lung and breast cancers.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and busiest Trusts in London with a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence and world class care. In January 2025, the Royal Free and North Middlesex Trusts merged, and we now deliver care to over 2 million people a year through our four main hospitals.  There are infusion suites to treat cancer patients at The Royal Free, Finchley Memorial, North Middlesex and Chase Farm Hospitals whilst radiotherapy is delivered at the Royal Free and North Middlesex Hospital.

The post-holder will work alongside medical and clinical oncology colleagues at Barnet and North Middlesex hospitals and will be essential for service provision as well as the development of the lung and breast cancer pathways, as well as educational supervision for the junior doctors.

The successful candidate should have experience of working within a multidisciplinary team; have a wide experience in Clinical Oncology but in particular in lung and breast cancer management and acute oncology.

If you believe you meet the criteria of the person specification and would like to join the Royal Free London, we encourage you to apply.

Main duties of the job

Clinical oncology lung and breast clinics are based at all RFL health units. For the clinical oncology lung practice there are 2 clinical oncologists based at the Royal Free Hospital who also cover the lung radiotherapy practice at Barnet, and 1 clinical oncologist at North Middlesex. This post will cover the CF lung radiotherapy practice with a clinic at Barnet hospital which will include systemic treatment alongside the medical oncology clinic (2 medical oncologists, 1 SAS doctor and CNS) incorporating a multi-disciplinary oncology clinic.  The clinical oncology breast practice covers the CF practice with the clinic and radiotherapy delivery at North Middlesex health unit. There is support from a Clinical Oncology SpR, 2 Specialty doctors and Clinical Nurse Specialists.

All clinics have SpR or senior clinical fellow/ non-medical prescriber support. Systemic treatment is delivered at the Royal Free, Finchley Memorial, CF and North Middlesex sites.  There is a cross-site lung and breast cancer MDT for RFH, BH and CF with a separate MDT for North Middlesex.

The post-holder will join the oncology team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFL) as a 10PA substantive consultant.

This post will cover:

  • Lung Cancer
