Job overview

This new substantive post is in view of growing demand for device implants, semi-retirement of one colleague and the in keeping with the aspiration to develop new services.  We need someone who will work well within our existing team of PCI interventionists to enhance the existing service.  You would be joining an enthusiastic team. The successful applicant will be part of a 1:17 week cardiology ward weekday on-call rota when normal activities are cancelled.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support ward rounds and provide specialist opinions for outlying patients in the wider Trust. The post holder will undertake clinics, contribute to discussions at our multidisciplinary meetings, and ensure the medical optimization of patients. A complementary subspecialist interest would be welcomed but is not essential. An interest in complex Cardiac Devices would have a good fit with our current consultant body although we would welcome applicants with other subspecialist interests in addition to Heart Failure. The post holder will take part in cardiology ward cover including out-of-hours on call for general cardiology as part of the Consultant of The Week rota. There is no general medical commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In conjunction with colleagues, to provide a service in Heart Failure and contribute to the Cardiology Consultant of the Week rota. The post holder will take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

To play a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.

In conjunction with Divisional Managers, Consultants and Senior Colleagues, to take an active role in the management of the Division. To play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and to ensure requirements of clinical governance are met.
