Job summary

A substantive consultant position for an enthusiastic, dedicated and skilled Cardiologist with expertise in Adult Congenital Heart Disease and echocardiographic imaging.

Main duties of the job

Key Tasks

1. Contribute to the Adult Congenital Heart disease service including outpatient clinics, including potentially speciality and outreach clinics, ACHD echo lists and multidisciplinary team meetings. There is currently a very small in-patient care commitment, but it is anticipated that this will increase as the service grows.

2. Contribute to the Echocardiography service including transthoracic echocardiography lists, and imaging opinion as part of the inpatient urgent MDT meetings and other MDT meetings.

4. Provide intra-procedural imaging for interventional procedures including the atrial septal defect and left atrial appendage closure service and valve intervention services as required.

5. Contribute to the training of junior doctors in accordance with standards required by College, Postgraduate Dean and Trust. Participate in the education programme for medical students attached to Royal Papworth.

6. Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development.

7. Work with the team to support the research programme, and to contribute to audit activities.

The post-holder will be responsible to the Divisional Director for Cardiology and accountable to the Medical Director when undertaking the following duties:

*Outpatient clinics

*Echocardiography lists

*MDT meetings

*Education of medical students and supervision of trainees

*Participation in internal and national audits

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Cardiology with ACHD subspeciality training
  • TTE accreditation BSE or equivalent
  • Experience in transoesophageal echocardiography
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, relatives, medical and non-medical colleagues, and to seek advice when appropriate.
  • Leadership skills and ability to collaborate.
  • Research experience
  • Record of initiation of audit projects and presentation of results.
  • Experience in the organisation and delivery of teaching activities

Desirable

  • Post CCT imaging fellowship experience
  • ACHD TTE accreditation BSE/EACVI
  • Evidence of TOE competency such as TOE accreditation (BSE or EACVI)
  • Experience of image guidance of ACHD interventions e.g. ASD closure
  • Peer review publication

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Specialist Registration in Cardiology on commencement

Desirable

  • Higher degree (e.g. MD or PhD)
