This is more than a Consultant role it's an opportunity to lead, influence and innovate. We are looking for an outstanding Consultant Dermatologist to join our team as Clinical Lead and drive the next phase of service development. You'll work with a passionate multidisciplinary team, lead improvements in skin cancer and specialist dermatology services, champion innovation, and help deliver the highest standards of patient care. Main duties of the job

As Consultant Dermatologist and Clinical Lead, you will help shape the future of Dermatology at Barnsley, combining clinical excellence with inspiring leadership. You will lead service development, drive innovation, support multidisciplinary teams, and influence strategic decisions to improve patient care, workforce sustainability and service performance. Working with clinical and operational colleagues, you will champion quality improvement, develop modern models of care and deliver high-quality, patient-centred services.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in the management of a broad Acute Medicine caseload.

Desirable

  • Current ALS certificate or equivalent
  • Experience in a specialist interest that will complement those of other staff.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine
  • OR
  • Full GMC registration, and within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology due to completion of training or within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine due to completion of training, or application via GMC CESR with the submission completed at time of interview in either case.

Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Audit:
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles
  • Research:
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
  • Management:
  • Ability to work effectively and constructively with management
  • Training and/or evidence in areas such as leadership, planning and change management
  • Teaching:
  • Evidence of effective teaching to medical students and doctors in training and to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to present effectively to an audience using a variety of methods.

Desirable

  • Evidence of direct involvement in 2 specific medical audits in the last 18 months.
  • Evidence of involvement in a research project.
  • Evidence of formal management training.

Skills & Attributes

Essential

  • Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description including the shift pattern required.
  • Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job including acute medicine and general internal medicine.
  • Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally.
  • Ability and evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to be flexible to meet service demands.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual
  • responsibilities it implies.
