Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join an established, successful, enthusiastic and ACSA accredited team in delivering quality anaesthetic, peri-operative and critical care services to the local West Dorset population and adjoining areas. This includes anaesthetic support for the hospital’s surgical teams including Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Maxillo-facial, ENT (adult and paediatric), Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Paediatric Dental, Colorectal, Renal Access and General Surgery. Anaesthetic support is also provided in the radiology suite, endoscopy unit and for dental sedation.
Applicants should be on the Specialist Register and/or have obtained their CCT or proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview .
They will ideally have had previous experience at a consultant level in the UK.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will join an established, successful and enthusiastic team in delivering quality anaesthetic, peri-operative and critical care services to the population of West Dorset and the Purbecks. This includes anaesthetic support for the hospital’s surgical teams including Orthopaedics (adult and paediatric), Ophthalmology, Maxillo-facial, ENT (adult and paediatric), Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Paediatric Dental, Colorectal, Renal Access and General Surgery. Anaesthetic support is also provided in the radiology suite, endoscopy unit and for dental sedation.
There will be some commitment to teaching within normal clinical work. It is hoped that it will be possible to accommodate a specialist interest to complement the skills of the successful appointee.

Education and Training
Essential
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCTs in Anaesthesia and ICM CESR or European Community Rights
- An appropriate higher qualification in Anaesthesia (FRCA or equivalent)
- An appropriate higher qualification in Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent experience
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- 7 years clinical experience in Anaesthesia, including at least one in UK
- Experience demonstrating potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant
- Willingness and ability to fulfil the general service elements of the job description
Teaching and communication

- Evidence of teaching experience and abilities appropriate to the post.
