An exciting opportunity has arisen within Livewell Southwest CAMHS Neurodiversity Pathway. We are looking to recruit a Band 3 Community Support Worker to work in the Neurodiversity Intensive Support and Intervention team. Within this team, support is offered to children and young people who are presenting in crisis in relation to their neurodiversity and mental health. The post will be based at the Terraces on the Mount Gould Hospital site the team works closely with all other specialist CAMHS teams.
The CAMHS Neurodiversity Pathway work with children and young people aged between 5 & 18 and their families/carers. We are fundamentally positioned within the wider network of services for children and young people across Plymouth which supports multi-disciplinary working.
This role is central to the CAMHS strategy of collaboration to reduce health inequalities across the city as well as improving access to mental health services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of children and young people with neurodiverse diagnosis such as Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD and Tourettes Syndrome.
The post holder will offer support and guidance to young people who are presenting in crisis in relation to their neurodiversity and mental health. They will also offer support to the young persons family and there will be a high level of engagement with schools and other agencies involved in the childs life.
The post holder will provide psycho education to young people and families around their diagnoses and will work with them on the triggers for their presenting difficulties. They will also attend meetings with the wider network.
The post holder will observe children in schools and provide a report of their findings in order to assist in a wider neuro developmental assessment.
The post holder will contribute to a rota covering an telephone advice line which operates Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, offering advice, support and signposting to children and families awaiting neurodiversity assessment within CAMHS.
This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.

Job responsibilities
To work alongside the multi disciplinary team in the assessment of children and young people who are presenting with behaviours suggestive of a neuro developmental Condition such as Autism, ADHD or Tourettes Syndrome.
To support children, Young People and Families who have received a diagnosis to help them to understand what it means for them.
To work alongside our colleagues in education to ensure the mental health needs of the child have been acknowledged.
To work closely and collaboratively with clinicians to ensure that the needs of children and young people with an escalation of risk or deterioration in their mental health are met in a timely and appropriate manner.
To provide telephone advice to children, young people and their families and/ or professionals.
To support the mental health assessments in a location most convenient/appropriate for the patient; this may be in their home, GP surgery, school or Emergency Department.
Work with the clinicians in the delivery of most appropriate intervention required for a child or young person, with an emphasis on positive risk management, and refer as necessary.
To intensively support a child or young person in the community to prevent the need for admission and offer a step-down package of care of a child or young person being discharged back to community services.
Represent CAMHS in meetings as and when required and clinically appropriate to gather and share information.
The post will include flexible working patterns over a 37.5 hours working week to incorporate cover 8-10pm and weekend working.
Responsibilities:
- Support the neuro assessment process.
- Ensure the on-going effective use of routine outcome monitoring
- Provide education to children, young people and their families to enhance their knowledge of neuro-developmental and mental health issues and management of this.
- Promote resilience and prevention of mental health issues.
- Maintain high standards of clinical care to children, young people and their families.
- To liaise and work with other CAMHS teams to ensure the needs of children and met by the right team, on the right pathway at the right time.
Knowledge, Training and Experience:
- The post holder will be responsible for updating their own practice, knowledge and skills within their sphere of practice including Livewell Southwest mandatory training.
- Knowledge of relevant policy and legislation.
- Knowledge of Mental Health and Mental Health service delivery.
- Knowledge of Child Development and Safeguarding
- Good ability to know when to involve senior staff in a child or young persons care and share relevant information
- Liaise with other services to arrange appointments that both meet the needs of child or young person and service demands.

Experience
Essential
- A background of working in a care setting and/or education / social care setting. Previous experience of working with young people in a professional/voluntary capacity.
- Experience of working with people with neuro developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Condition and ADHD.
Qualifications
Essential
- Vocational Qualification Level III in Healthcare or able to demonstrate the ability, skills & knowledge to work at this level.
- Maths & English GCSE Grades 4 and above or equivalent.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Understanding of professional boundaries.
- Understanding of confidentiality.
- Knowledge and/or awareness of mental health problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with young people and their families/carers, who are experiencing mental health problems in the community setting.
- Some experience / knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD.
- Some experience/ability in communicating with other professionals from the multidisciplinary team and professionals from other health settings and agencies.
- Knowledge of own limitations.
- Team player.
