An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, passionate and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our expanding Perinatal Mental Health Team. This is a new part time post and you will be working closely with current Senior Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapist Assistant. You will have an interest in providing occupational therapy to women with a range of perinatal mental health needs.

We are a specialist service that strives to deliver excellent standards of care to expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health problems. The team is multi-disciplinary and works directly with women and their family’s providing assessment, interventions and support for pregnant women and women within the postnatal period with a range of mental health needs.

We are looking for a dynamic, passionate and creative clinician who wants to make a difference to the lives of families, with a patient centred approach at the heart of their delivery.

You will be joining a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team with extensive training opportunities along with regular supervision, reflective practice and opportunity for career progression.

The PMHT covers Telford and Shropshire area.  The team uses blended working options, and utilisation of other facilities across the county.

Perinatal and maternal mental health services in Shropshire won The Positive Practice in Mental Health (PPiMH) Award in 2021 and was shortlisted and received recognition at 2025 awards.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the occupational therapy assessment of care needs and contributing to the formulation of the person’s needs and the development of a relevant plan based upon the person’s negotiated goals and relevant evidence-based interventions. The post holder, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, will provide occupational therapy interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and/ or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical pathway.

  • Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning in conjunction with service user and carer, evaluation of individual treatment plans (Care Programme Approach).
  • Responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
  • Assess patient's individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Deliver a range of non-pharmacological interventions following specific occupational therapy assessments to enable understanding of any expression of an unmet need and to maximise an individual’s abilities.
