We have an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to join our Bladder and Bowel service, providing evidence based advice, assessment and treatment/management of bladder and bowel dysfunction to adult patients in the community, within the areas of Preston, Chorley & South Ribble.

This post offers the chance to develop skills and knowledge of bladder and bowel care. The work is varied and you will be working independently within clinic and residential homes and patient homes, providing assessment, advice and treatment to adults with bladder and/ or bowel symptoms

The Bladder & Bowel service is a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, physiotherapists and Health Care assistant and is led by the specialist physiotherapist.  The service has a supportive and warm culture where everyone’s contribution is valued. There will be support to achieve the necessary skills and knowledge required to work independently within the role.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide evidence based advice, assessment and treatment/management of bladder and bowel dysfunction.
  • To perform investigations including bladder scanning and urinalysisTo manage a caseload of patients who require specialist nursing input.
  • To work in collaboration with partner agencies in planning and implementing care, to promote continence and effectively manage incontinence
  • To obtain informal consent to the continence assessment/discussing the implications of the assessment on its completion.
  • To determine a nursing diagnosis for patients with bladder/bowel dysfunction, planning, implementing and evaluating packages of care in response to their individual needs
