An opening for a Community Mental Health Nurse – Band 6 - Charge Nurse.
You will be working within an Adult Community Mental Health Team based in the Partick area that delivers mental health services within the North West Glasgow area, Glasgow City HSCP. The team has a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of mental health services in partnership with clients, carers, GPs and other organisations. The Multi-Disciplinary Team includes Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and Administration staff. Our core function is to provide assessment and treatment for people experiencing mental health problems in a community setting.
Excellent communication skills and a well-developed knowledge of caring for adults with mental health problems is required. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work on your own initiative are essential for this post. You will be responsible for the clinical leadership of more junior members of the team, prioritising workloads and utilising resources appropriately. Experience of appraisal, clinical supervision and support including caseload management are required for the post. You will be accountable to the Nurse Team Leader for the management of your workload and that delegated to other team members under your supervision. Applicants should be a Registered Mental Nurse with significant community experience at Band 5, together with evidence of continuing professional development. Current NMC registration and driving license is essential.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Maryhill Health & care Centre
- Permanent Contract
- Part-time position (30 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday
Key responsibilities:
- To be responsible for the assessment, care planning, review and discharge of individual caseload, management of a caseload or client group within a defined clinical area and carry out regular reviews of the nursing team caseload within sphere of responsibility
- To liaise with and act upon referrals from GPs, other primary care workers, consultants, and other statutory bodies
- To provide a regular caseload management and clinical supervisory function to other nursing grades and facilitate the appraisal process for a team within sphere of responsibility. Ensure that the systems are in place for all grades of nursing staff within their area
- To provide a leadership/developmental function to nursing staff within defined sphere of responsibility with regard to career long learning, implementation of evidence based practice and innovation. This includes activity associated with continuous quality improvement such as the setting and monitoring of standards of practice
- Provide as required, an extended supervisory role for nursing staff out-with the team, e.g. other nursing grades
- Develop and maintain therapeutic collaborative relationships with service users, carers, relatives and fellow health and social care professionals who are involved in care delivery, this happening in often complex and contentious situations requiring specialist nursing skills
- Actively be involved in the development of local protocols and also participate in the development of clinical policy, procedures and guidelines, which may have an organisational or multi-professional focus
- To support the effective management of clinical and environmental risk on a day to day basis including assessing and reporting risk, identification of safety issues in lone working practice and also working in complex situations where engagement with clients can be difficult

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- First level Registered Mental Nurse
- Significant post registration nursing experience with relevant competences
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills
- Ability to fulfil main duties and responsibilities as outlined in the job description
