Are you an experienced Children’s Nurse looking for a new challenge?

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Community Children’s Nurse to join our dynamic team delivering high-quality care across Oxfordshire.

This role involves providing specialist nursing care and advice to:

  • Children with acute and short-term conditions
  • Children with long-term conditions
  • Children with disabilities and complex health needs, including those requiring continuing care and respite support
  • Children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, including palliative and end-of-life care

You will work in partnership with families, empowering them to confidently care for their child at home while acting as an advocate for the child’s voice and best interests. Collaboration with multi-agency partners is central to this role to ensure seamless, family-centred care within the community.

The role will be predominantly based in the West of Oxfordshire however as the service is a countywide service you will be required to travel across the four localities. The base to be confirmed with the candidate between Oxford, Witney, Abingdon and Banbury.

The Oxfordshire Community Children’s Nursing Team delivers essential care and support to children and young people from birth to 18 years with complex health needs across the county. Our caseload includes children with a wide range of chronic and acute conditions who require specialist interventions such as enteral feeding, long-term ventilation, symptom management and clinical support during episodes of acute childhood illness.

We are committed to enabling children to remain at home wherever possible. Our service focuses on empowering families to confidently meet their child’s healthcare needs, providing planned respite sessions, delivering acute and palliative care in community settings, and supporting children within their educational environments. We are commissioned to provide comprehensive services across each of our four localities.

This post is based in Witney/Abingdon; however, as we operate a countywide service, regular travel to other areas and bases is required.

Core service hours are 08:00–20:00, 7 days a week. Staff work contracted hours on a shift pattern, including weekends and bank holidays. The 24-hour palliative on-call rota (20:00–08:00) is currently covered by Band 6 staff and above. Where appropriate, flexible working arrangements may be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
