The Role
- The advertised post is for a Clinical Technologist within the Medical Physics Department based within University Hospital Wishaw.
- The service includes the installation, commissioning, calibration, performance assurance and repair of a wide range of medical equipment. In addition, staff undertake duties in accordance with the quality system operated.
- A demonstrable knowledge of electrical, electronic or engineering principles to carry out the servicing/repair/clinical support (assisting users in the operation of the medical equipment) on medical equipment.
- Knowledge of Electrical Safety or PAT Testing, IT/software and specialist test equipment with experience are desirable with practical experience on the maintenance & repair of medical equipment.
- Experience of engineering workplace practice and techniques including Health and Safety Regulations, working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines and working within Quality management systems.
- This post will also include driving to Community Health Facilities etc. to perform the above duties.
The working pattern for this role is a fixed 5 day shift pattern, Monday – Thursday (08:45-16:45), Friday (08:45 -16:30).
NOTE: Interviews for this post will be in person, proposed interview date: 9th or 10th July (TBC).
In this key role, you will:
- Liaise with clinicians, surgical staff & clinical users to gain a clear understanding of the nature of problems and difficulties experienced with medical equipment during use assessing the nature of the problem, responding appropriately to the urgency of the user request.
- Undertake fault finding on complex medical devices to board or component level as appropriate. Apply suitable fault finding techniques to diagnose problems, including those beyond the scope of manufacturer-supplied information. Report novel fault conditions to manufacturers. Exercise judgement to determine the causes of faults in devices with multiple, complex and inter-related systems (e.g. electronic, computer and mechanical systems), which may be due to user error, equipment failure or environmental issues (e.g. Temperature, Radio Frequency interference).
- Undertake repairs on complex mechanisms to component level where appropriate.
- Check that equipm[ent performs to manufacturer’s specification.
What You'll Bring:
- Degree in Applied Physics or Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
- Knowledge of maintaining and repairing electro-medical equipment in a healthcare setting, dependant on qualification held by post holder.
- Good technical knowledge.
- Basic knowledge of human physiology.
- Good IT skills.
- A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
