The Role

The advertised post is for a Clinical Technologist within the Medical Physics Department based within University Hospital Hairmyres.

The service includes the installation, commissioning, calibration, performance assurance and repair of a wide range of medical equipment. In addition, staff undertake duties in accordance with the quality system operated.

A demonstrable knowledge of electrical, electronic or engineering principles to carry out the servicing/repair/clinical support (assisting users in the operation of the medical equipment) on medical equipment.

Knowledge of Electrical Safety or PAT Testing, IT/software and specialist test equipment with experience are desirable as are the following; practical experience on medical equipment, workplace practice and techniques including Health and Safety Regulations, working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines and working within Quality management systems.

This post will also include driving to Community Health Facilities etc. to perform the above duties.

The working pattern for this role is Monday - Friday (Day Start 08:45).

In this key role, you will:

  • Liaise with clinicians, surgical staff & clinical users to gain a clear understanding of the nature of problems and difficulties experienced with equipment during use and assess the seriousness and implications of the problem and respond appropriately to the urgency of the user request.
  • Undertake fault finding. Apply suitable fault finding techniques to diagnose problems, including those beyond the scope of manufacturer-supplied information. Report novel fault conditions to manufacturers. Exercise judgement to determine the causes of faults in devices with multiple, complex and inter-related systems (e.g. electronic, computer and mechanical systems), which may be due to user error, equipment failure or environmental issues (e.g. Temperature, Radio Frequency interference).
  • Rectify complex equipment faults. Undertake repairs on complex mechanisms to component level where appropriate.
  • Check that equipment performs to manufacturer’s specification.

What You'll Bring:

  • Degree in Applied Physics or Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Knowledge of maintaining and repairing electro-medical equipment in a healthcare setting, dependant on qualification held by post holder.
  • Good technical knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of human physiology.
  • A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
