Job overview

The BSMHFT Teaching Academy is recruiting five Clinical Teaching Fellows to join our vibrant and innovative education team. Main duties of the job

This is a full‑time, non‑clinical post focused on delivering high‑quality teaching to medical students and trainees. Teaching is primarily small‑group, interactive, and includes simulation, communication skills workshops, theatre‑based learning, and film‑based teaching. Fellows will also contribute to assessment design, feedback, and educational innovation.

Post holders will undertake a Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Medical Education (or equivalent), supported by the Teaching Academy.

Opportunities exist to undertake locum on‑call shifts or arrange clinical sessions within the Trust to maintain clinical skills if desired.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ NHS experience (clinical attachments do not count)
  • Have completed Foundation Training or Core Psychiatry Training in the UK
  • Hold a current UK training post or have recently completed one
  • Demonstrate strong grounding in core psychiatric principles

Desirable: MRCPsych (not essential)

Applications not meeting the minimum NHS experience requirement will not be considered.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is full-time education delivery with no clinical or on-call commitment, although there is opportunity to undertake locum on-calls within the Trust and to undertake clinical sessions to maintain clinical skills.

The post holder will deliver teaching mainly in small group tutorials, although there is opportunity to take part in large group teaching. The teaching is interactive and includes simulation training, communication skills workshops and facilitating theatre and film club.

The post holder will undertake a post graduate certificate/diploma or similar in medical education. In addition, they will receive training in writing assessments, assessment feedback, developing simulation and other new and innovative ways of teaching which are available and supported by the Teaching Academy and the wider Trust.
