Our shift patterns will require day, night and weekend working.
You will work at all times under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the shift and will work to the level of your experience, assessed competence and skilled acquired within the post.
All new CSWs will start with a comprehensive induction and receive ongoing pastoral and technical support from our dedicated Recruitment and Education Support Assistants (RESA).
You will be supported to achieve your Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment, which will give you the skills and knowledge needed to practice safe and compassionate care.
Support and training package available to you:
6 day induction programme.
2 week supernumerary period - you will be supported by your new colleagues whilst getting to know your departments and new job role.
Local induction to learn procedures in your department.
If your application is successful to progress to the next stage, you will be invited to attend an Assessment in-person at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.
Interviews will be held for all applicants who successfully pass the Assessments.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction of a registered nurse/nursing associate, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a high standard of care to patients. This will include personal care and limited delegated clinical care duties. We are committed to providing a safe, clean and caring environment for all of our patients.
As a CSW, you'll play a vital role in supporting our nursing teams to deliver high quality, person-centred care. You'll assist with day-to day tasks including: Supporting patients with personal care and mobility. Monitoring and recording observations (eg. temperature, pulse, respiration) Assisting with meals and hydration. Providing emotional support and companionship. Maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Personal care includes washing, mouth care, eye care, hair care, toileting, feeding and dressing.
Clinical duties include tasks such as monitoring and recording observations, blood glucose checks, recording fluid intake and output, skin checks and venepuncture.
Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe environment for both staff and patients, adhering to infection control guidelines.
Chaperoning patients during procedures or escorting them to different clinical departments.
Supporting relatives and carers and escalating to a registered nurse as required.
Disposing of waste.

Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge or understanding of the role which includes patient care, limited clinical duties and relevant legislation.
Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE Maths and English (Grades A* to G) or equivalent.
Desirable
- L3 Health and Social Care Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum of 12 months)
- Has undertaken the Care Certificate.
Personal Skills
Essential
- Kind and compassionate.
- Good communication skills.

- Demonstrable experience in dealing with people who are sick and distressed or equivalent customer focused employment.
