Job overview

This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist to support the development, implementation, continuous monitoring and improvement of the Active Together Programme for a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

The role of clinical specialist physiotherapist is to lead, deliver and sustain the success of the exercise element of the Active Together Programme at Airedale, working collaboratively with the operational manager.  The Active Together programme runs alongside the existing diagnostic and treatment pathways to ensure patients are optimally prepared for treatment and beyond. It aims to maximise resilience to treatment, improve longer term health, minimise side effects and empower patients to be partners in their healthcare.

The programme combines physical activity, nutritional support and psychological support alongside the clinical pathway. This is a funded 5-year staged implementation programme. Patients receive individual assessments and are triaged into a support pathway suitable to their needs. This is delivered within locality or selected facilities closest to the patient's home or may be a self-management pathway.

You will be joining a small friendly team based at Skipton Hospital consisting of the Operational Manager, another Physiotherapist, a Dietitian, a Psychologist, and plans to recruit a Project co-ordinator, and Fitness Instructors in the future.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and support the implementation of the Cancer Prehabilitation services at Airedale NHS foundation trust, in conjunction with the Operation Lead

  • Work with professional groups and services to ensure that developments within the service meet national, local, and organisational priorities in relation to service delivery, clinical governance, and leadership, aiming to ensure that statutory procedures are appropriately managed and delivered
  • Assess and treat own complex caseload of patients/clients
  • Design and implement clinical protocols for the physical activity and exercise components of the pathway
  • Act as a professional resource and advisor, providing support and guidance on all matters concerning cancer rehabilitation including embedding principles of co-production, value-based care, prudent healthcare, supporting self-management and protecting the most vulnerable
