Working as a member of the Colorectal and Stoma Care Team the post holder will provide specialist nursing care to patients with a diagnosis of colorectal cancer and other diseases of the colon. They will be responsible for the co-ordination of the patients’ treatment pathway, acting as a link between primary, secondary and tertiary care. They will act as a named key contact for patients, relatives and carers on behalf of the colorectal cancer MDT and provide support for patients and carers from the time of diagnosis onwards. The post holder will deliver specialist training and education programmes at all levels both in hospital and community settings. The post holder will work unsupervised with regular monitoring/clinical supervision from the Clinical Nurse Specialist and /or medical staff. They will assist in the development of protocols and procedures, and in research and clinical audit for the specialty.
Part Time - 28 hours per week
The successful candidate will have a passionate interest and an ability to work with the complex clinical nursing needs of this patient group and provide a recognisable Macmillan experience. They will be able to manage their own workload, work autonomously and have excellent assessment and clinical decision-making skills. They will be expected to actively participate in clinical audit, quality assurance activities and research projects pertinent to this service including Peer Review preparation. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Have in-depth knowledge of key National Cancer Strategies and the NHS Long Term Plan.
Assist the Band 7 CNS to maintain accurate and concise records of the clinical service to ensure statistical information is compiled that will profile the service and inform future development. 2 Be involved and contribute to clinical protocols and developments for the specialist services 3 Assist the Band 7 CNS in collection of evidence and service improvements required for peer review 4 Assist in the collection of colorectal data for submission to national audit. 5 To undertake regular individual performance review in conjunction with the CNS and agree personal development plans in line with service objectives. 6 Participate in the annual service review and following this assist in the production of an annual report evaluating service provision and future service developments. 7 Organise own work and practice and participate in cover arrangements for the service. 8 Undertake delegated tasks and project work, as requested by the line manager. 9 Assist the Band 7 CNS in investigating complaints and incidents relevant to the department 10 Deputise in the absence of the Band 7 CNS
