Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced GPhC registered pharmacist who would like to develop their clinical knowledge across a number of clinical areas, support and manage clinical services provisions across a multisite organisation, plus provide education and training to junior pharmacists and the wider department.
We are one of the largest training providers of foundation trainee pharmacists, with a training cohort of 18 trainees, 30 undergraduate placements and up to 36 FS1 foundation pharmacists. It is a dynamic department, with lots of opportunities and many expert colleagues to learn from.
You will support the Lead Pharmacist, Clinical Services with both clinical services development and organisation, as well ensuring continuous quality improvement of high quality patient-focused ward and clinical services to patients of the Trust.
The post holder will work with and alongside a variety of specialist pharmacy teams and operational service leads and engage in co-ordinating and supporting the clinical service provision across the sites. You will have the opportunity to line manage resident/rotational staff and/or be a trainee supervisor depending on your experience.

Main duties of the job
- You will deliver a high-quality clinical pharmacy service that promotes the safe, effective and cost-efficient use of medicines, while supporting excellent care for patients across the Trust.
- You will play a key role in strengthening medicines management practices, promoting consistency and high standards across teams and services.
- The role also offers the opportunity to share your expertise through education and training of pharmacy staff, trainee pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- As an experienced and supportive practitioner, you will inspire newly qualified pharmacists, helping them to develop confidence, capability and a strong commitment to clinical excellence.
- In return, you will be part of a dynamic pharmacy team and contribute to a service that operates across late duties, on-call, weekend and bank holiday rotas to meet the needs of patients and the organisation.

Essential
- Broad hospital pharmacy experience, including wardbased clinical practice
- Experience of delivering education, training or supervision to pharmacy staff or trainees
- Experience of providing clinical advice and communicating therapeutic options clearly to prescribers and multidisciplinary teams
- Evidence of contributing to audit, quality improvement or service development
Desirable
- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy practice or equivalent
- Experience of contributing to service planning or development
- Independent prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards this
Education / Qualifications
Essential
- Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Registered Pharmacist with the GPhC
- Post-graduate certificate in general pharmacy practice or equivalent qualification
Desirable
- Diploma in Pharmacy Practice
- Independent prescribing
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential
- Good digital literacy, including use of pharmacy systems and standard Microsoft applications
- Understanding of current NHS priorities, clinical governance and medicines optimisation
- Strong clinical reasoning and professional judgement, including in complex or ambiguous situations
- Ability to communicate with empathy and professionalism with patients and carers
Desirable
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- Experience of presenting audit or quality improvement work
- Ability to contribute to change and improvement work
