Job overview

This is a fantastic role in a busy Lupus Unit, presenting plenty of opportunities to further experience in research into Lupus and related Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases, gaining a unique understanding of the running of clinical trials, contributing to a clinical busy department, as well as encouraging self-directed research interests.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Research Fellow will be responsible for delivering studies in Lupus, under the supervision of the principal investigator. Full training in relevant clinical research skills including clinical trial conduct will be provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities:

Clinical:

Research duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Screening and recruitment of potentially eligible participants
  • Consent and enrolment of participants
  • Support, follow-up and clinical assessment of enrolled study participants and families according to the study protocol
  • Liaison with R&D and collaborators including the driving assessment centre
  • Maintain productive working relationships with the GSTT research nursing team
  • Collection and quantitative/qualitative analysis of study data
  • Preparation of study documents, ethics applications, study materials and reports
  • Presentation and dissemination of progress/findings via multiple media including manuscript publication
  • Clinical trial management and conduct according to GCP principles
  • Teaching and training of medical, nursing and allied staff as well as medical students.

Research:

The post holder will, with the help of the multi-disciplinary research team, support the extensive clinical research programme within the Rheumatology Department. This will include:

  • Supervising and contributing to the provision of required medical support for patients participating in interventional and non-interventional clinical studies.
  • Review of adverse event reports from clinical studies.
  • Drive up recruitment to those studies by promoting clinical research activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, efficiency and operational functioning of the research team.
  • Ensure that written informed consent is obtained from every study subject before any study related procedure/s are carried out, including sample and data collection, administration of treatment and clinical observations, drug administration and clinical observation. This is in accordance with the Trust research governance arrangements and Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials Regulations) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006 incorporating International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP).
