Chief Registrar - Oncology 1.0 WTE Fixed term – 12 months (depending on start date) until September 2027
We are delighted to offer a 12-month fixed-term Chief Registrar opportunity within Oncology at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC).
The Chief Registrar is a senior leadership and management development role for specialty trainees, providing a unique opportunity to develop strategic, leadership and service improvement skills while maintaining clinical practice. The post offers an approximate 50:50 split between clinical duties and protected time for leadership, service development and project work, and is available on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum 0.8 WTE) for trainees at ST4 level or above.
Working alongside senior clinical and operational leaders, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping service development initiatives, leading improvement projects and gaining valuable experience in healthcare leadership within a large regional cancer centre.

Main duties of the job
Timetable will be approximately 50:50 Clinical:Project work
The post holder will undertake clinical duties for approximately 50% of their time within Oncology at BHOC, aligned to their training requirements and agreed tumour site. At any given time, the post holder will typically work within one tumour site and will hold a regular weekly outpatient clinic(s), reviewing patients undergoing treatment and those in follow-up, under appropriate consultant supervision. Clinical responsibilities will include assessment and management of patients across the cancer pathway, contributing to treatment planning and ongoing care. The post holder will attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and tumour site-specific clinical activities. Depending on the tumour site, there may also be involvement in systemic anti-cancer treatment delivery, acute oncology services and, where appropriate, radiotherapy-related activity.
Clinical commitments will be organised to ensure protected time is maintained for leadership and service development responsibilities.

Essential
- Computer skills. Able to use Microsoft Office, e-mail, internet, PACS
- Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of principles of audit and research and willingness to participate in projects
Desirable
- Competent in prescription & administration of chemotherapy
- Experience in radiotherapy planning
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Adult oncology
- General adult medicine (minimum 2 years)
Qualifications and Training
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Registration with GMC
- MRCP or equivalent
- FRCR Part 1 (if a clinical oncology SpR)
