Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic NMC/HCPC registered experienced scrub practitioner with an interest in clinical governance to join our perioperative education team.

WUTH Perioperative Medicine is responsible for staffing 22 theatres across its acute and elective sites at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge as well as minor ops services.

WUTH perioperative medicine has a workforce of over 360 people with a variety of learners from different healthcare profession's visiting our trust as well as medical staff rotating through our department.

The post holder will work split as part of the education team and along side the theatre management team to help with departmental clinical governance programme.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve collaborative working with the theatre team leaders and the associate director of nursing to help deliver high quality, safe patient centred care across all of the WUTH theatre sites.

Supporting the training and professional development of our perioperative staff from induction and preceptorship through their careers promoting the acquisition of new skills and knowledge. As well as the staff that we have in the departments as a NHS teaching hospital trust we have a wide range of students and learners spending time in our departments and providing them with high quality leaning experiences.

The role will also involve assisting with the development and implementation of protocols and standard operating procedures to help the department promote good clinical governance and effective risk management. undertaking clinical audits to ensure that staff are able to adhere to professional standards and competencies required for the care of our perioperative patients.

The post holder will work 50/50 across the clinical governance and education elements of the role.  Acting as a role model and maintaining high standards of practice.

working together with the theatre teams to assess the learning needs and develop identified training opportunities and experiences for our teams and learners. These could be via supervision or one on one teaching sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The clinical practice educator (theatres) will work collaboratively with the theatre team leaders and deputy associate director of nursing to deliver effective, high quality, safe patient centred care across all theatre sites. She/he will support the continuing education, training and professional development of theatre staff, including preceptorship and induction of newly qualified theatre staff promoting the acquisition of new skills and knowledge.

She/he will assist in the development and implementation of appropriate protocols and standard operating procedures in order to promote good clinical governance and risk management and undertake associate clinical audits as directed to ensure that all theatre staff are able to acquire and adhere to the professional standards and competencies required in perioperative practice.
