An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Clinical Photographer/Qualified band 5 Clinical Photographer to join the experienced and friendly Clinical Photography and Design Services team at the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Our department provides a wide range of photography and video services to specialties throughout the trust such as Dermatology, Burns, Plastics and Cleft Lip and Palate to name a few. You will work in our purpose-built studio, on the wards and in operating theatres to provide a first-class photography service to our service users and contribute to a positive patient journey throughout our hospitals.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated and a team player who can work on their own initiative when needed. A want to work with children is a must! You will be rewarded with a varied and interesting job role and the chance to develop your skills as a clinical photographer taught by a very experienced and motivated team.

If not already qualified, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a funded post graduate certificate in Clinical Photography, run by Staffordshire University.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical photography for patient’s notes, treatment planning, diagnosis, teaching, clinical trials and audit. Highly specialised techniques are employed in some areas of clinical photography including thermal imaging, dermoscopy, 3D and intra oral photography.

Clinical Photography necessitates the use of complex, specialised camera and lighting systems and a high degree of visual awareness as well as speed, accuracy and dexterity when working in confined clinical areas.

Intra-Oral photography involves the insertion of mirrors and retractors into the oral cavity and a sound knowledge of infection control procedures.

Providing an end-of-life photography service for bereaved families and children receiving palliative care.

Produce high quality, repeatable clinical images using own initiative to accurately record a clinical condition or procedure. Ability to perform macro-photography. Ability to use location and studio lighting in a variety of photographic situations to accurately record a clinical condition.

Public Relations photography in a range of situations and locations using own initiative and judgement to capture the correct image.

To actively promote the departments’ services within the Trust.
