Job overview

Clinical / Counselling Psychologist (Band 7) based in Islington. Psychosis Pathway in Core Teams (Full-time, permanent)

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a specialist community psychosis pathway in a Core (adult mental health) Team.

The post-holder will provide extended assessments, formulations, consultations and psychological therapies (individual and group) to those presenting with psychosis and other severe mental health needs (including a diagnosis of bipolar disorder).

Previous experience of working with severe mental health problems is essential. We welcome applications from psychologists due to qualify this year. Please contact us to discuss any request in variation to the advertised hours.

Please also get in touch with any other enquiries about the role. The post requires Health and Care Professions Council registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist.

People coming towards the end of their clinical or counselling psychology training may apply and commence in post after qualification and registration with the HCPC. If there is significant delay in obtaining qualification from a training course as a result of requirements to make major thesis corrections, then initial appointment at Band 6 as a trainee psychologist, with progression to Band 7 on qualification and HCPC registration, may be considered.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will act as a fully integrated member of the team, providing a service to clients with a diagnosis of psychosis, bipolar disorder and co-occuring complex needs, with the aims of supporting recovery, promoting mental and physical wellbeing and optimise independence and social inclusion.

You would work directly with individuals, groups and families from a wide range of diverse backgrounds, providing tailored assessment, formulation, consultation and interventions for psychosis, bipolar and co-occuring psychological difficulties such as trauma. You would work closely with MDT colleagues and other agencies to provide psychologically informed care, through joint working, training and consultation. You would be expected to work autonomously, with support and supervision, within professional guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service.
