Job summary

Interventional Radiology is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Nurses, preferably but not essential with Interventional Radiology (IR) experience, to join our team as Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists.We currently have opportunities within both our Interventional Radiology Theatres service and our Non-Vascular Intervention (NVI) Ultrasound service.

Main duties of the job

Whichever pathway you join, you will work closely with the Interventional Radiology MDT and specialty stakeholders as an autonomous practitioner committed to delivering the highest standards of patient care. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate The Leeds Way values and are passionate about delivering safe, effective treatment pathways alongside an excellent patient experience.

Do you hold a Non-Medical Prescribing qualification? Whilst this would be advantageous, it is not essential, provided you are willing to undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing postgraduate course if not already qualified. This qualification and associated scope of practice will support you in working proactively and autonomously to optimise patient care.

These roles involve managing specialist caseloads within evolving services and would suit motivated individuals who are confident working across complex pathways. The post holders will be required to support pathway development, undertake information gathering and fact-finding, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop effective, efficient, and patient-centred services.

Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist - Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology Theatres Clinical Nurse Specialist

Based primarily within the Interventional Radiology Theatres at SJUH, you will coordinate care for patients undergoing a wide range of complex image-guided procedures across multiple specialities. Acting as a key point of contact for patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team, you will support patients through their procedural journey, ensuring they are appropriately prepared, informed, and optimised for treatment.

Working closely with Interventional Radiologists, Anaesthetists, Theatre Teams, Ward Staff, and Specialty Services, you will contribute to service development, pathway improvement, and the delivery of safe, high-quality care within a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Non-Vascular Interventional (NVI) Ultrasound Clinical Nurse Specialist

Based primarily at the SJUH site, you will coordinate care for patients undergoing a range of Ultrasound-guided and non-vascular interventional procedures across a diverse caseload, including Hepatology, Renal, Respiratory and other specialist services.

As a key point of contact for patients and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide a comprehensive, wrap-around model of care. You will ensure patients are fully informed about their upcoming procedures and actively support their pre-procedure assessment, optimisation, care, and procedural planning.

We provide care of the conscious patients undergoing elective and acute, diagnostic and sometimes complex multi-organ vascular procedures such as embolisation of tumours and haemorrhage, angioplasty, stenting, nephrostomy insertion, tumour ablations, and acute urological and vascular procedures and stroke thrombectomy.

What you will bring to the role

The Jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care.

The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care. The job holder will provide training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.
