Job overview

Due to the expansion of the service we are pleased to be recruiting an additional Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist to the team. The paediatric ENT CNS role is a very exciting role with vast scope for the right candidate to improve their specialist clinical practice and knowledge alongside utilising their existing excellent communication and organisational skills

The role covers multiple areas across CUH and encompasses inpatient work, outpatient clinics and regional surveillance via telephone and email of complex ENT children

There is also a managerial element: your own time management skills will need to be excellent as this is very much an autonomous role within a busy, dynamic and friendly team. There is direct line management of a Band 6 specialist support nurse. There is caseload management of a large cohort of ENT patients

Although a busy role, there is plenty of support across an experienced team which comprises Surgeons, Trainees, clinic nurses and HCAs and administrative staff. The team is approachable and this role is well-supported by the Matron team including the direct line manager for this post

This role is responsible for some of the most complex ENT children in the region and shares a caseload with our colleagues in the Long Term Ventilation service

Main duties of the job

You will need to have an excellent knowledge of paediatric airway management including tracheostomies and naso-pharyngeal airways. You will also have excellent knowledge of and experience in caring for routine paediatric ENT procedures such as adenotonsillectomies

You will have good evidence of recent continuing professional development and evidence of being involved in research. You will have a good understanding of service development and feel confident representing the service in meetings with a range of attendees. You will have a good understanding and recent experience of audit and how management pertains to safety and service development

You will be confident and competent at writing and providing teaching sessions both informally and formally in a range of settings and for a variety of attendees from parents and carers to clinicians

You will have broad knowledge and experience in safeguarding children and young people and be a competent advocate for children and young people with very complex health, communication and social care needs. You will have good experience in managing complex caseloads, either as inpatients or in the community setting. You will ideally have a good understanding of discharging the complex child from hospital and of the commissioning process in the community

You will communicate confidently and effectively with professionals in other secondary and tertiary care centres and should be willing to share support and advice with other teams
