This role is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist CAMHS Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) service in South West London and St George’s NHS Trust. The team is a multidisciplinary team working with young people and their families across Sutton, Merton, Wandsworth, Kingston and Richmond. It provides intensive, evidence-based therapy for young people who struggle with high levels of emotion dysregulation, self-harm and other self-destructive behaviours in an outpatient setting.

This team is a small, energetic and dedicated team. It has built strong relationships with other CAMHS services across the boroughs and has close links with other DBT teams working with young people across South London.

We seek an able and committed CAMHS professional to provide high quality clinical work with young people. CAMH services in south west London have a positive and supportive culture, and the post holder will join a vibrant group of clinicians within the Psychology and Psychotherapies group.

DBT training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Applicants will have:

• Experience in working with children and young people in a variety of community settings, particularly with those presenting with complex high risk, emotional dysregulation and self-harm
• Experience in working in multi-disciplinary settings and accustomed to interagency working
• Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Procedure
• Experience in delivering DBT is desirable
• Experience in working with trauma and disordered eating presentations is desirable

We welcome applications from newly qualified clinicians, and those in the final stages of training who have not yet obtained registration. However, an applicant will only be made an offer conditional upon successful registration within a timescale that is specified.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The CAMH Service Line is located within South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust. Community CAMHS is responsible for the provision of mental health services to the population of Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton, Kingston and Richmond.

Community CAMHS provides out-patient and consultation services to children and adolescents experiencing a range of mental health problems and developmental difficulties.

Tier 3 teams conform to a model based on the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) and on the Children and Young Persons Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP IAPT) initiative.

The service includes dedicated devices for Eating Disorders, Neurodevelopmental Assessment, Complex Learning Difficulties, Multi-Systemic Therapy, DBT, and Emergency Care.

Borough teams conform to a uniform structure with standard assessment and intake processes via a Single Point of Access (SPA). The SPA provides mental health screening assessments and brief family consultation interventions to children and adolescents experiencing a range of mental health, neurodevelopmental and emotional health difficulties.

An electronic clinical record and information system (CYP IAPTUS) is in use.

Clinical decisions are informed using Routine Outcome Measures, and services monitor their clinical effectiveness via aggregated data that is accessed via a dashboard.
