Job overview

Provide clinical leadership and specialist expertise, delivering high-quality information, support and advice to patients, their families and carers, while acting as a key resource for the multidisciplinary team. Contribute to the coordination of patient care to ensure a seamless and consistent experience throughout the patient pathway. Play a central role in reviewing and developing services to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the patient group.

Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience within the speciality, supporting clinical leadership and contributing to education within the scope of practice. Lead and participate in clinical audit and research activities to monitor, maintain and improve standards of care. Undertake clinical procedures, including diagnostic and treatment interventions, in line with the responsibilities of the specialist role

Main duties of the job

Within this role you will be provide specialist advice and support using advanced listening and counselling skills, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity when delivering verbal and written information on diagnosis, prognosis and care. Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, high-quality care, and attend regular breast MDT meetings. Offer holistic support to patients diagnosed through the Symptomatic Breast Service, acting as an accessible point of contact and providing a reliable telephone advice service for concerns relating to symptoms and treatment. Support patients and their families with education, guidance and appropriate resources, enabling informed decision-making and respecting patient rights at all times. Act as a patient advocate, facilitating understanding of treatment options, including participation in clinical trials, while maintaining evidence-based practice.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and Breast Care Nurses to contribute to the development and implementation of integrated care pathways and to ensure a comprehensive service that delivers optimal outcomes for patients with breast disease.
