Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pain Management
Band 6 - 37.5 hours per week
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Pain Team as a full time substantive Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist.
As Clinical Nurse Specialist you will have a central role within the team, managing patients with acute pain and complex pain needs. You will be working primarily within the inpatient setting, as well as providing support to the outpatient teams to deliver safe and effective care to optimise and improve patients’ quality of life. Education to all members of the clinical team will be part of this specialist role.
Working as part of our multi-disciplinary team, you will use your knowledge and experience to lead on the development and delivery of all aspects of our acute pain service – providing clinical leadership to nursing staff and expert professional advice to other healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
The successful candidate will become an integral part of the pain team who strive to ensure a coordinated and multi-professional approach to diagnosis, treatment, planning and care provision for all patients and their families. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work alone as well as with the multidisciplinary team to deliver the highest standard of care.

Main duties of the job
- To provide specialised clinical advice and support in the management of acute/chronic pain.
- To work autonomously assessing patients in pain and devising pain management strategies.
- To be responsible both professionally and managerially, assisting in the development and co-ordination of the multidisciplinary pain service in collaboration with the Team.
- To provide educational support and training in acute pain management to all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- To assist in the development of enhanced recovery programmes within the Trust.
- To continually monitor, audit and evaluate the pain service and actively participate in the implementation of change to ensure high standards of care are maintained.
- To provide cover for the other Pain Nurses and Pre-Op/Enhanced Recovery Nurse when required.
