An opportunity has arisen for an experienced dietitian to join our team of 3.0wte Paediatric Gastroenterology Dietitians, to expand their skills in the area of paediatric dietetics. We require a motivated and innovative dietitian with good clinical skills and a broad knowledge in the area of paediatric dietetics. You will have good interpersonal skills and an ability to work well as part of a team.

This is a maternity leave cover for 12 months. The post is 0.6wte Band 8a but will consider a 0.8wte Band 7 dependant on experience and skillset.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to gain further experience in a wide range of general and specialist paediatric dietetics with an emphasis on gastroenterology. The trust is a specialist centre for paediatric gastrosurgery and you will be working closely with our 3 consultant gastroenterologists to provide care for neonates and children with Short Bowel Syndrome, IBD and other gastro-related disorders. You will also gain experience in other specialist areas such as neonatology, PICU, ketogenic diets, allergy, diabetes, neurology, oncology, trauma. Additionally, you will also work as part of a larger team of dietitians in this busy London teaching hospital.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the Paediatric Dietetic team at St Georges Hospital. You will be a clinical lead responsible for the nutrition and dietetic management of inpatient and outpatient paediatric gastroenterology including intestinal failure, and surgical inpatients under the care of the Women and Children’s Service Delivery Unit.

To lead the Paediatric gastrointestinal specialist dietetic team at St Georges Hospital and be responsible for providing high-quality care to our gastrointestinal patients, following evidence-based practice, being an active multidisciplinary team member and educator, developing nutrition policies and guidelines, and participating in audit and research to improve health outcomes and develop the role and service.

Clinically this post works within the Intestinal Failure and gastrosurgery team covering inpatient parenteral nutrition and home parenteral nutrition, offering both an in and outpatient caseload. It is clinically responsible for leading the team of paediatric GI dietitians who work across medicine and surgery and operationally manages the paediatric GI dietetic team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc / Post graduate diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in Paediatrics e.g. BDA Masters modules 1-4 in Paediatrics (depending on area of practice)

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Postgraduate experience of working in acute paediatric dietetic services at advanced level within Paediatric GI and paediatric critical care
  • Clinical experience of working with complex paediatric gastroenterology and/or Surgery
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working

Desirable

  • Experience in the clinical supervision of students/junior staff
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audit/research in relevant clinical area
