Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Fellow to join its specialist Neuromuscular Paediatric Neurology service. This mainly outpatient-based post offers hands-on experience in complex neuromuscular care, including day case activity for SMA gene therapy and other disease-modifying treatments.
You will work within a supportive paediatric neurology team, contributing to multidisciplinary care, treatment pathways, audit, research, protocol development and the neurology/neurosurgery on-call rota. We are looking for a motivated clinician with strong communication skills, sound judgement and a commitment to high-quality, family-centred care.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting 6-month fellowship for a post-MRCPCH paediatric neurology trainee wishing to develop specialist expertise in paediatric neuromuscular disorders at the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre, Great Ormond Street Hospital. The post offers broad experience in assessing, investigating and managing children with suspected or confirmed neuromuscular conditions across outpatient, day case and inpatient settings.
The successful candidate will support clinical care, diagnostic pathways, combined specialist clinics, teaching, audit and research. They will clerk and review patients, complete investigations, support the neuromuscular SPR, liaise with specialist teams and receive supervised training in muscle biopsy, muscle MRI meeting coordination and disease-modifying treatments for spinal muscular atrophy.
The Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre, established in 1975, provides a comprehensive specialist service for children with neuromuscular disorders. It includes the National Commissioning Group service for congenital muscular dystrophies and congenital myopathies, alongside clinical, research, clinical research facility and muscle pathology teams.
The service provides assessment, diagnostic investigation and management, including inpatient and outpatient care, day case activity and consults to other GOSH teams. Multidisciplinary working is central, with links to physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics, specialist nursing, laboratory and clinical teams.

- 18 months post (or pre and post) registration experience in paediatrics.
- 6 months medical acute paediatrics with on-call at SHO level or above
- 2 years Paediatric Neurology Post (SpR/NM research)
- Experience of teaching and presenting
- Appropriate defined level of clinical knowledge
- Knowledge of evidence based practice
Desirable
- Level 3 neonatal unit post (SHO or above)
- Community paediatric post (SHO or CMO)
- Experience in related specialites
- Clinical Experience in related paediatric specialities
- Research or publications
- Ability to use sources of reference information (libraries, journals, databases)
