Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced clinician to join Somerset NHS Foundation Trust as an IMT3 / ST3--4 equivalent in Respiratory Medicine at Yeovil District Hospital.

This is a registrar-level post offering excellent exposure to respiratory medicine and acute general medicine, with opportunities to develop as a Tier 2 decision maker under consultant supervision. The role includes participation in the general medical on-call rota and provides strong support for progression into higher specialty training.

The post is ideal for doctors aiming to build experience at IMT3/ST3--4 level and pursue a career in Respiratory Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Work as a Tier 2 registrar-level clinician in Respiratory Medicine

Provide senior clinical decision-making for patients on respiratory wards and acute take

Participate in General Internal Medicine on-call rota (approx. 1:13) including nights, weekends, and long days

Supervise junior doctors and provide teaching, support, and feedback

Perform core procedures including:

  • Chest aspiration and drain insertion
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Ascitic paracentesis
  • Cardioversion
  • Contribute to ward rounds, clinical reviews, and multidisciplinary working
  • Optional involvement in frailty front door services and stroke rotation
