Job summary

Clinical Fellow ST3-5 in the department of Paediatric Cardiology We are inviting applications to fill our Clinical Fellow ST3-5 vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Paediatric Cardiology. This post is fixed term for 1 year. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date.

Main duties of the job

We are inviting applicants to join our busy but welcoming Congenital Cardiology team as a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Cardiology, for an initial period of 12 months based at Leeds General Infirmary in West Yorkshire. This role is suitable for applicants at ST3+ with some experience in Congenital Cardiology. We are looking for candidates who may wish to develop their clinical skills with a view to longer term careers in Paediatric Cardiology. The successful candidate will be assigned an educational supervisor and will receive exposure to both elective and non-elective inpatient and outpatient Paediatric Cardiology work. This will include experience in ward patient management and Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Cardiology. Although the major focus of the post will be in supporting service delivery in these areas, depending on the previous experience of the successful candidate, there may be opportunities for some exposure to sub-specialty work including advanced echo, advanced cross-sectional imaging, cardiac catheterisation, fetal cardiology and electrophysiology.

Why you should join our Team

The department serves a population of approximately 5.5 million in Yorkshire, Humberside and Northern Trent. Services include all aspects of specialist tertiary care of cardiac patients with the exception of transplantation. The annual workload of the department includes over 10,000 outpatient consultations, approximately 500 catheterisations per year (diagnostic, therapeutic, and electrophysiology studies/ablations), and approximately 500 congenital cardiac operations.

The congenital cardiology department is situated in the Jubilee Building at the Leeds General Infirmary. The department includes a dedicated 16 bed paediatric cardiac ward, (of which 6 beds are designated as high dependency) and paediatric intensive care unit with 16 beds. There are obstetric, neonatal and all other paediatric services on site.

What you will bring to the role

We require good basic paediatric skills and knowledge, enthusiasm, flexibility and an ability to work in a team.

Applicants must have full GMC registration.

Provision of Paediatric Cardiology Services within the Hospital with responsibility for the prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of illness within the Paediatric Cardiology Department.

Close working with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to assist in providing high quality patient care

The post holder will be accountable to Dr Dominic Hares as clinical supervisor and as clinical training lead of the department.
